Snow Storm01.10.11

Right about the time we settled in for the night Carol noticed a few missed calls on her phone, each kind enough to leave a message – or well a warning – about the impending doom that should befall us all later this very night.  According to some Nature was about to play some cruel joke on us all and give the ill equipped and even less prepared South a taste of snow.  With recent changes in our home entertainment we no longer receive the nightly news in a manner that is useful so we checked online – sure enough.  Ok…well, lets be honest – the reports showed a bunch of people in lines at the store with cart loads of groceries, now while that is certainly news, in the South it could mean an number of arbitrary things were on sale and was certainly not indicative of impending doom in the form of uniquely frozen miniatures ice cubes from the sky.

Lo and behold.  We were finishing up a few things before heading off to bed and Carol took a peep out the window and couldn’t believe what she saw.  Our entire deck was covered in a thick layer of snow.  The sky was indeed falling and it was falling fast.  I headed out to grab some extra firewood to stack in the garage while Carol on the other hand thought it was completely necessary to torment me with snow balls while I performed this selfless act in the name of the safety and warmth of our dear family… ;-)  All is well though in Love and War.  She didn’t realize I was taking video and not pictures during her escapades in the snow!!!  Love You Hunny!

Fun in the Snow for Christmas01.01.11

It is rare to get snow in Georgia, or well normally it is, but the past few years we have received at least a little, normally after the turn of the new year when winter is in full swing.  This year however we were surprised that the weathermen were actually right for once when it started snowing on Christmas Day.  It didn’t take long before the temperatures plummeted and massive snow flakes started to stick and accumulate.  It was a wet snow to start with, wet enough that Dad and I were able to chase off Autumn, pummeling her with snowball after snowball when she had to leave Christmas night – I guess next time she will stick around ;-)

The day after however much of the wetness had dried up and all that was left was a nice power – little icy for skiing but nice nonetheless.  The CoTC could take it no longer though and wrapped themselves in layer upon layer to head out into the arctic cold.  Great times ensued !!!

It was great to have snow and even better to have it on Christmas Day.

Snow Day03.10.10

The day has passed now and since been replaced by a dizzying array of southern winter weather.  We have had ice, warm rain, lightening, 75° weekends, slush, wind, downpours and pretty much tiny slices of everything else since that snow.  It was a fun day for us though.  It started late in the evening, past the point where we needed to be out, and continued throughout the night.  I don’t know what the official “inches” were but I would guess that it was four to six, maybe even a touch more.  Once we were bundled up and the kids were anxious to head out into the blizzard and play.  There were certainly snowmen out there that needed building and snow balls that needed targets and they were bound to oblige.

Snow Day03.06.09

What started out, or so I assumed, as a just another cold Sunday changed with some excitement from Piper, yelling about the sky falling from the playroom.  “Daddy, It’s snowing!!! It’s snow daddy!!!  Come hear, come hear”.  I don’t know what I thought she might be seeing but snow certainly was not on the list.  It has been cold and rainy, and later I heard that snow was forecast, but it so rarely snows here that it never crossed my mind that it actually was – silly three-year-old – what does she know.

Turns out she knows precisely what snow looks like falling from the sky.  This wasn’t just small flakes dusting the ground either.  It was the huge puffy wet snow falling everywhere.  At the point Piper noticed it had likely been snowing for a while as the ground, bushes and vehicles were covered with an inch or so.

Quickly we got dressed to suffer the cold and wet to come and rushed out to play.  Violet had been in snow before but not at an age she would remember.  She certainly had fun just running around and looking at the snow fall from the sky.  Piper enjoyed it as well but was quite obviously cold.  We played for a good while before I was able to get some pictures and we headed back inside for hot cocoa and chocolate milk.
